Does my faith, religion or culture matter ?

The content of a Celebrant ceremony is not dependent on any faith, religion or culture. However, if you wish to incorporate a tradition or faith element into your ceremony you are welcome to do so. This can work particularly well where you wish to combine two cultures or faiths. Readings, hymns and symbolic acts are often woven into ceremonies.

What to expect:

A naming ceremony can take place almost anywhere you choose, and the ceremony can be organised in a way that works for you. A naming ceremony is what parents want it to be. They are usually happy occasions full of laughter and attended by an assortment of family and friends – and more often than not, lots of children ! They can be held in someone’s house or garden, in a hotel, park, on a beach or any place special to you.

Special touches

Such a happy occasion deserves special touches and the possibilities are almost endless. These do not have to be expensive or particularly elaborate (unless you want them to be) simply a special touch that welcomes your baby and when looked back upon captures the love, warmth and happy memories the day created.

‘Time capsules’ can work really well. Guests can be asked to write a note of what they wish for the baby; include something from their birth date such as a newspaper; photos of people taken on the day, pictures depicting life today, hand/foot prints and locks of babies hair are just a few examples.

The capsule is then sealed and put away until your child’s 18th/21st birthday when it can be opened and enjoyed

Candles and tea lights can be lit to welcome your child during the ceremony (bespoke or plain)

Some families have planted trees, bulbs or plants to mark the occasion, others have created guests’ ‘bunting promises’ which provide a reminder of the day for years to come. The choice is yours.
