Naming Ceremonies

Our names form an integral part of our identity, and most of us keep the names we are given at birth for our entire lives. They form part of who we are and connect us to our families.

A naming ceremony can be a lovely way to introduce your gorgeous new addition to your family and friends with a sense of occasion. Alternatively it can be a way to mark an adoption or the blending of two families.

Christenings have traditionally been the rite of passage for new borns, however if you require a non-religious or part religious ceremony (prayers, hymns and blessings can all be included) a naming ceremony can be perfect.

It's entirely up to you as to how you would like the ceremony to be organised. I never loose sight of the fact that this is your ceremony, and when dealing with babies and small children flexibility is key. All my ceremonies are individually written to meet your needs and are focused on you, your child and your family.

Generally ceremonies consist of the formal naming of the child, the making of promises by parents, supporting adults or whoever you feel appropriate (similar to godparents in a christening service). You can choose to include readings, poems and music. During the ceremony you, as parents, can also state your love and commitment to your child and declare your hopes for their future.

This is simply a general outline, your ceremony can be as individual and personal as you wish.

I will present you with a copy of the ceremony and a naming certificate as a memento of the day.

Please do email or phone me, without obligation to discuss your ideas.
